Marie Hunter joined IEEE in 2011 and currently serves as Managing Director and executive team member responsible for Conferences, Events and Experiences.

Marie oversees the strategy and supporting operations for over 2,000 global technical conferences and thought leadership events that deliver more than $200M in revenue for IEEE. In addition to the live conference line of business, Marie is responsible for the related intellectual property acquisition of papers, the virtual center of excellence and more. In her tenure, the number of IEEE conferences has more than doubled, with a broad geographic reach and a footprint that now reaches over 100 countries.

In her current role, Marie leads a team of 80+ business managers, event producers and planners. Nurturing a culture of collaboration and innovation has been a hallmark of her management style. Known as a creative and effective problem solver, Marie has successfully tackled several important business issues during her tenure including leading the business through the recent pandemic, spearheading digital adaptations, business process changes and new product development.

Prior to joining IEEE, Marie enjoyed a 30+ year professional career working for companies such as American Express and Lehman Brothers as a Managing Director of Business Development Services. In this role, Marie led the creation of global shared business services across Marketing and Communications, Information Technologies, and Corporate Event Management. Marie had the opportunity to work on an abundance of high-profile events, including multiple Olympic Games, the Annual Meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), US Open Tennis, and World Cup Soccer.

A graduate of Iona University with a BA in Literature and the recipient of the School of Arts Award for Academic Excellence, stories have always been central to Marie’s perspective of the world and knowledge sharing. She brings this unique perspective to events and experiences as she converts agendas and outcomes into stories that can be modeled and shared. Her current passions include focusing on the confluence of mission and business growth supercharged by the evolving event profession.
