Mr Yap Chin Siang assumed the position of Deputy Chief Executive of the Singapore Tourism Board in June 2020. In this role, he leads the Experience Development Group in developing original tourism concepts and experiences, promoting investments in new tourism products, developing Singapore as a
leisure and business events capital, as well as building distinctive and sustainable precincts that shape a unique and holistic visitor experience. Chin Siang is also responsible for the Corporate Development functions including Finance, Human Resources and Organisation Development, Legal as well as Compliance and Corporate Services. He also heads the Singapore Exhibition and Convention Bureau to attract and develop quality exhibitions, conferences, association congresses and corporate events to Singapore.
Chin Siang was previously the Assistant Chief Executive of the Policy and Planning Group from October 2012 to February 2019, where he led the policy and strategy development across STB. He oversaw areas such as capability and manpower development, and drove industry development and regulatory efforts for integrated resorts, cruise, hotels, travel agents and tourist guides. He also oversaw the planning and management of large scale tourism infrastructure such as Singapore Expo and Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore. Chin Siang was seconded to Gardens by the Bay as its Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) from March 2019 to May 2020. In this role, he provided strategic direction and developed policies to position Gardens by the Bay as a premier horticulture and nature-based attraction. He was also responsible for the business development, retail management, programmes and outreach, digital transformation and strategy, public relations and corporate communications, corporate development, and human resource and corporate services functions of the Gardens.
Prior to joining STB, Chin Siang was Director, Ministry of Trade and Industry where he was responsible for formulating and implementing economic strategies to engage North-east Asia. Later seconded to the Energy Market Authority (EMA), he headed Energy Planning & Development Division, overseeing EMA’s policy and planning work to ensure that Singapore’s energy market remains competitive. He also steered EMA’s industry development and external engagement efforts to promote a dynamic energy landscape and showcase Singapore’s thought leadership.
Before MTI, Chin Siang spent 9 years in the banking industry, in leading global financial institutions such as Standard Chartered, Citibank and ABN Amro.
Awarded the Singapore Government Overseas Merit Scholarship and Cambridge Commonwealth Trust Fund, Chin Siang was conferred a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics (2nd Upper) from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University in 1991.
