Christian Spannbauer is Chief Technology Officer of Lufthansa Digital Hangar since 2022 and has been entrusted with setting the technological course for the future. Christian’s leadership extends to software engineering, data and AI management, and the coordination of a tech team spread across multiple locations. Ensuring the security and integrity of data and systems remains a paramount aspect of Christian’s role.

With a Diploma in Economics focused on business administration and computer science, his journey has been a blend of Christian’s strategic insight and technological prowess. Since 2017, Christian has been a vital part of the Lufthansa Group, where Christian’s passion for innovation and leadership has flourished.

During Christian’s tenure as the Head of LSG Global Information Management and Chief Information Officer (CIO) from 2017 to 2020, Christian orchestrated a seamless global IT framework for LSG, Lufthansa Group’s catering company. Christian’s responsibilities covered a vast spectrum, managing IT operations for over 50 subsidiaries and a workforce of 35,000 employees. Stepping into the role of Head of IT Digitalization for Lufthansa Airlines in 2020, Christian’s focus shifted towards shaping the digital landscape of the airline industry. Christian has been dedicated to delivering digital solutions that not only enhance existing business models but also pioneer new ones, all while spearheading data and analytics management and integration services for the entire Lufthansa Group.

Before joining Lufthansa, Christian’s career path was marked by diverse roles within Metro Group and leading IT consultancies, where Christian honed skills and gained a holistic understanding of the industry.
