Janice Lachance, Esq., FASAE

Janice Lachance brings an extensive record of executive leadership accomplishments and board service in professional membership societies and government organizations to her role at AGU. In her current roles as the Interim Executive Director and CEO as well as the Executive Vice President of Strategic Leadership and Global Outreach, her portfolio includes: Global Program Coordination, Science Policy and Government Relations, Strategic Communications and Marketing, the Executive Office, Governance and Leadership Development, and Affiliation, Engagement and Membership. In addition, she led the renovation of the organization’s 62,000-square foot headquarters into a net-zero energy building – the first renovation of its kind in Washington, D.C.

Prior to her work in associations, Janice was nominated by President William Clinton and unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate as the Cabinet-ranked Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the federal government’s independent human resources agency responsible for all policy and programs affecting the 2.1 million members of the nation’s civil service. In March 2022, President Joe Biden appointed Lachance as Chair of the Federal Prevailing Rate Advisory Committee and to serve as a member of the Federal Salary Council.

A graduate of Tulane University School of Law, Janice is a Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration, Vice Chair of the Wise Giving Alliance, and the Past President of ASPA – the American Society for Public Administration. She has served on the ASAE Board and Chaired the Fellows Selection Committee. Janice is the 2022-2023 Chair of the ASAE Fellows.
