Sustainable Travel & Tourism Agenda

For over 20 years, Judy has championed the sustainable tourism development agenda in Africa and beyond. Her focus has been on social and environmental accountability of tourism, with interests in integration of communities in the tourism and conservation value chain and accelerating integration of SMMEs in the supply chain.

Her recent accomplishments include co-editing of the book Sustainable Tourism Dialogues in Africa and being featured in the recently released travel & tourism film entitled “The Last Tourist.” In 2019, Judy was awarded the Sustainable Citizen Award by Forbes Woman Africa in recognition of outstanding contribution to awareness and knowledge of sustainability in tourism in Africa and beyond. In 2020, she was named among 40 global shakers in sustainable tourism. In the same year, Judy was recipient of the Legacy in Responsible Tourism Award from Centre for Responsible Tourism.
She is a renowned sustainability assessor having served as a judge of World Travel and Tourism Council Tourism for Tomorrow Awards for several years, and onsite evaluator for Nat Geo Unique Lodges of the World and Nat Geo World Legacy Awards. She has recently been a judge of UNWTO Best Villages Awards and International Tourism Film Festival Africa.

Her other roles in the industry include: ex-board member of Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), ex-advisory board member of The International Ecotourism Society (TIES), Africa board member African Wildlife Foundation, board member Centre For Responsible Tourism (CREST), board member of Fair-Trade Tourism (FTT), Chairperson, Mara North Conservancy and Director Africa Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW Kenya), among others.
