Robin McClain

Chief Marketing Officer

Destination DC

Robin McClain serves as Chief Marketing Officer at Destination DC, the official destination marketing organization for Washington, DC. In her role, McClain leads Destination DC’s efforts to generate interest and visitation to the city while leveraging the latest research, technology and trends to attract consumers. As McClain leads the marketing efforts to help DC’s hospitality industry recover post-pandemic, Destination DC’s advertising achieved its highest return on investment in FY2022.

As the Marketing and Communications department head, McClain oversees the advertising and research, creative, content marketing, communications, social media and events for Destination DC, managing a dynamic 26-member team. McClain was the originator of the city’s DC Cool advertising campaign, which promotes experiences around the District on and beyond the National Mall into DC’s eclectic and unique neighborhoods. DC Cool evolved into Washington, DC’s brand and is the platform upon which all promotions are built. Most recently, McClain and her team launched a recovery advertising campaign called Experience DC, with a regional, drive-market and national media strategy focused on providing personalized content for consumers through digital ads that connect to washington.org.

A Washington Metropolitan native, McClain was raised in Gaithersburg, MD and graduated from the University of Maryland. She began her career in broadcast journalism locally at WTTG FOX 5. She went on to work as a news reporter in Salt Lake City, UT at KSTU FOX 13 and in Phoenix, AZ at KNXV ABC 15.

Immediately prior to joining Destination DC, McClain worked for the Los Angeles Tourism and Convention Board for several years as Senior Director of Media Relations.

McClain serves on the board of the DowntownDC Business Improvement District and is vice- chair for U.S. Travel Association’s Destinations Council’s Board of Advisors. She is an avid tennis fan and shopper, often combining those loves when she travels.
