Mariela Vallines Fernández, Esq. was born on February 18, 1973 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, She was raised in the municipality of Morovis, Puerto Rico. She began her college studies in 1990 at Purdue University in Indiana. She completed her bachelor’s degree in Finance and graduated from the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in 1996.

She worked as Director of the Sponsorship Committee and as Manager of the Special Events Division of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, actively participating in the organization of local and international events that promoted Puerto Rico as a tourist destination. Vallines Fernández also worked in the hotel industry for the Westin Hotels & Resorts chain and the Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc. company, where she led efforts in the development of programs aimed at achieving an excellent service.

In 2002, she began her post-graduate studies at the Interamerican University School of Law and in 2005 she completed her Juris Doctor degree, graduating with high honors. In September of that same year, she passed the bar examination and took her oath as an attorney admitted to the practice of law and public notary in January 2006.

From 2006 to 2017, Vallines Fernåndez dedicated herself to the private practice of law. She handled criminal, administrative, civil, and family law cases. During this period, she had contracts with the Department of Family & Children’s Affairs and with the Municipality of Morovis.

In September 2017, Vallines Fernández was appointed as Director of the Office of Legal Affairs of the Autonomous Municipality of Guaynabo and, in October of that same year, she was appointed to the position of Deputy Mayor of the same municipality, a position she held until January 2021 ,
In February 2021, Vallines Fernández was appointed by the Governor of Puerto Rico, the Honorable Pedro Pierluisi, as Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Convention District Authority, a position she currently holds.
